Figuring Your Rates
The industry standard is to figure rates based on miles. I like to figure it based on my profit per day.
Example: A 200 mile load at $2 per mile pays $400. With loading, unloading and dead heading to the next load everything needs to go perfect to get two loads a day. With a 50 mile dead head you’ve got 450 miles for the day. If your operating expense is a dollar a mile your profit is $350 for the day.
If you grab a 1000 mile run for $1.85 a mile and complete it in two days you’ll make $425 per day and only have to load and unload once. $1,850 - $1,000 for expense is $850 for two days. That’s an extra $450 in the bank at the end of the week.
Feel free to use the load bid sheet the “Load Bid Sheet” in “Spreadsheets and Calculators” area of this website.
